my sandbag, my life journey, my love
cambodia day 1 tues (12th june.)
Date: Friday, June 29, 2007
we reached the airport at about 4.30 am. and all the waiting was pretty long and drowsy.
we touched down to the warm sun of cambodia and our first stop in phong pheng was to Comfort Star Hotel.
they allocated rommies and rooms randomly and me, hazel and huilin got the same room.in actual fact, i was with eileen and huilin but i op for hazel as we hadta share some necessities.so eileen and hazel switched r00ms (:the room was pretty good. there''s a tv, sofa, air conditioning, 2 queen size bed... and a lamp to add on to the atmosphere/.we met Dr castro and some cambodians who would be our translator for the trip. they took us to see the remains of s21 killing. we went to see the prison cells (formally a school), with lots of pictures of each tortured victims.
it was like enlarged passport photos, from the green to the old.
an artist who survived this unbearable period painted the actual sight of how they were tortured and treated with evil. i felt such heartache and shame of human beings to reduce to such cruelty. how do they use their hands, to hold the little legs of the month old baby, and slam them against the huge trunk of the tree!teared trinkled.
as if it wasnt enough, they brought us to the killing fields whereby the prisoners were transported in trunks and killed and dumped there.there were countless big holes, acting as the graves. they told us:woman and children were stripped and thrown into graves./ headless man fills up another grave/ babies were slam against trees./ farmimg tools were use to inflict pain and kill.hearing it once is enough. i would nvr go back there again.what was adding on to the frown was i was the first to come down from the bus when we reach the killing fields. the first thing i saw was a guy, with close to red face, an eye ball raw, rotton flesh. i was shocked. i almost cried out. he was begging for money. haiy. must had gotten into an accident.and after all the feel like puking time, we went back after a tiring day, to our hotel for a nice shower, and to Dr castro's house for dinner.
and it was back to hotel, preparing our next morning for programs at the first village we would go.\and i decided to record down my everyday, such that i can blog like now
(:
